Aim: Why is the poem entitled "Ambivalence"? What ambivalent moods are
indicated in the poem?
Do Now:
- Copy WOD
- Practice and copy Test-Prep

- Review NYTimes news summaries
and copy down one interesting headline & summary
Activities:
- Homework #28 Represent moods
displayed in the poem with the key words/phrases from the poem in
a poster .
- Represent the same mood
with various colors
and various shapes in your notebook.
- Homework #29
Make two diagrams :
- Choose two different moods
displayed in the poem ( dangerous or excitement )and put them in the
center
- Use 5-10 words or phrases of
your own to demonstrate the mood . For example, for "dangerous"
mood, you can say "walking down a dark alley in a winter stormy night"
or "hanging on the cliff", "crossing a draw bridge made of ropes while
looking at the gorge 500 feet below".
- We'll make a poster of words
or phrases that portray the different moods in the poem "Ambivalence".
- Find words with rich
connotations (symbolic or metaphorical)
AMBIVALENCE
- Around the corner
- on the surface
- piercing like a needle
- surrounding my thoughts like an electric blanket
- As if to rip open and shock you to death.
- Alas comes the hero
- whirling, whipping, shining bright
- skipping, sliding, dancing across the
- page.
- With a hip and hop
- A jump and skip
- And wash their tears away.
