Cite two examples of foreshadowing.
What mood is portrayed in the imagery in paragraph 6, "The roof came down steep and black like a cowl, reaching out beyond the wide galleries that encircled the yellow stuccoed house. Big, solemn oaks grew close to it, and their thick-leaved, far reaching branches shadowed it like a pall...".?

Homework #38 Write a personal response to the story using a different point of view of narration, for example, from the point of view of a neighbor, Armand's deceased mother, Desiree, Armand's father, a slave, etc . You can write in the form of a diary, letter, dream, newspaper article, gossip, a scene etc.
Extra Credit Work-#38 Plus
Write a letter to the author that expresses your strong
feelings. Explore those feelings and why you reacted the way you did during and
after reading the author's work. Consider one or more of these questions when
writing your letter: Did the characters, conflict or setting mirror your life in
some way? What strengths or flaws do you share with a character or characters in
the book? What did the book show you about your world that you never noticed
before? What surprised you about yourself while you were reading this book? Why
was the work meaningful to you?
Write a personal letter not a fan letter or book report. Express yourself! A
letter is less formal than an essay or research paper. Write honestly and in
your own voice, as if you were having a conversation with the author. Keep in
mind-
1. Correspond, don't compliment! Your letter should inform rather than flatter
the author.
2. Do not summarize the book plot! The author wrote the book and already knows
about what happened: What the author does not know is how the book affected you.
