Tech-Prep in My Eyes

Ann-Marie Minaya: .Joining Tech Prep was one of the smartest things I did during my four years of High School. I learned about this program from the Guidance Counselor Ms. Lazarus. She told us that program was affiliated with F.I.T and that the one's that joined were going to enjoy certain benefits such as: college preparatory classes, computers in the classes, they teach how to use proper manners during a job interview. In addition to all this, F.I.T helps you get summer employment at pretty interesting places. Sometimes they send you to work at major companies such as Estee Lauder or they'll send you to work in places like Century 21. It all depends on your experience and your ability to  work. Also people who are important to fashion world and fashion companies such as Calvin Klein come talk to the Tech Prep group about the wide variety of jobs that have connections with the fashion world such as marketing and advertising. They also tell you what you need to do and what kind of schooling you should have in order to get a job in that field. Also they talk about their life experiences, I learned a couple of things from these people, important life lessons which aren't to be taken lightly. I feel that life is important and that when takes their time to go and talk to you about it, it is because there is an important message to be heard. The speakers also come with gifts like Calvin Klein T-shirts, and samples of new products. All the things promised to us we received, we have good teachers like Mr. Swanson, Ms. Lurie, Ms. Koffer and Ms. Wu to teach us the necessary skills to get to college. We learned a couple of computer skills and programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Even though sometimes I thought that we received many projects, and it was overwhelming at times. I understand that, this is our preparation for college. Despite all the work, I feel that there were more good times than bad.

Marlon Clarke: Tech Prep was a program where I had a lot of fun. I got the chance to meet new people and hopefully life long friend. This Program gave me memories that I will take with me to the very end. It was a wonderful experience, that what I have to say. Each morning I rise I contemplate what will happen today. What Ms. Wu or Ms. Koffer have planned. Or maybe today I will have Ms. Lurie or Mr. Swanson. When I am with These people I feel so welcome and accepted. I get this feeling of warmth and happiness. There is always some one in time of needs. You're always shown appreciation for all good deeds.

Lorena Diaz: When I entered the program I thought I was not going to do well, or get along with my peers. Thank God I met some great people and made some great friends. This program really helped us in teaching us how to network, and compose work in groups without any of us getting at each others throats. I certainly learned how to write college essays, and this was a great benefit, because as a result I got accepted into the college of my choice. Oneonta State University of New York. ...Through the Tech Prep Program I was taught how to compose a résumé which I found to be absolutely helpful. Let me just say how essential it is knowing how to write a résumé properly. It says so much about you and your potentials. I was also placed in a summer job which I have to say was interesting and exciting. I was a sales associate, which might not seem like much to someone, but when you meet celebrities like Brandy, Ricki Lake, Gregory Hines, and you see Dustin Hoffman walk right past by you, you feel pretty good.This program is different from any other courses have to offer because it prepares you to deal with pressure and the real world that is awaiting for you after the day you receive your high school diploma. Tech Prep Prepared me.

Aimee Pichardo:Throughout these two years that I have been a Tech-Prep student, I have had many interesting experiences.  Tech-Prep helped me meet many new people, people that  have become my close friends and who will be there for me no matter what happens.  This  is one of the best parts of having been a part of the Tech-Prep program, it enables you to  find people who are really concerned with your well-being. ... By being a member of Tech Prep we were taught many skills that we will be able to use out in the "real" world. I think that the two classes which brought all of us together were our Tech-Prep English and our Business Math class.  I have had mainly good experiences after being in the Tech-Prep.  I feel that as a result of being a Tech-Prep member I have learned a lot of things which will help me later on in life.  I have learned how to communicate with different people, and how to find solutions for difficult problems. Being a member of the Tech-Prep program does not stop  when you graduate, we are Tech-Prep members for life.

Amina Alliya:   Tech-Prep had its own uniqueness as well as other qualities. Tech-Prep special programs helped prepare me for college and the future. I really benefited from the English classes. In my junior and senior year my writing improved tremendously. I learned how to write more efficient and comprehensive which took me to another level. Even though the curriculum can be a challenge at times you just have to try your best. If you give your teachers the best, they can never fail  you for trying and not doing your best. The one thing I liked about Tech-Prep is that every month, a famous speaker from a top company would come in an speak to us. They tried to set a guide for us to see what it like in the real world. If they can do it, so can you was their attitude. We met people like Calvin Klein’s manager and Genuwini's producer. That was a lot of fun. Tech-Prep can only be of what you make it. You’ll start off at a rough start, but trust me it gets better in the end. My years in this program will never be forgotten. Especially with all the people that helped me along the way.

Michelle Seppinni : Tech Prep technically is a wonderful course that prepares you for the many challenges of life.  It is a college preparatory program that teaches you the skills you will need to excel in college.  Tech Prep enhances your learning ability, speech ability, and discipline ability. Speech is a major skill you will need in college and the years that follow.  Tech Prep will assign many fun and useful projects that will allow you to better your skills and teach you new ones. Many of these projects require verbal presentation.  My speech abilities were good, but I found that steady projects forcing me to use them more often improved my skills.  My ability to learn was very much improved.  You get involved in the work you do and it is easier to learn wen you are focused.  Although there is a lot of work involved wth Tech Prep, it doesn't feel that way at all.  Most of the work is so enjoyable and fun that you don't feel as if you are working hard. ... The best part of Tech Prep was meeting people. Eventhough there are people in Tech Prep I was not always fond of we were always connected like a family. ... Tech Prep allowed me to meet good people who were interested in the same ideas and set the same goals as I did.  After one semester, I spent a lot of time with my classmates and we became close. 

Tricia Skerrtte: Tech Prep to me was a good experience....What I mean by this is that it brought me to a world where I got the opportunity to learn about new things, meet some relly nice people, make good friends and get teachers that are sure to be remembered. You are also sure to get work that will keep you busy your entirer school year. It is not a tough program, you just have to apply yourself and you will make it.
As mention before for me personally this ws a good experience. Reason being is because it caused me to open up my eyes and realize that there are more in the world than what the textbooks will teach us. What I mean is that during this program the vistors that came to speak to us gave us insights on the job market. Also we got the opportunity to go on trips that helped us see what working is really like. With the help from the teachers in this program I was able to write essays for colleges that I am applying to and also for scholorship opportunities. I have also written essays for class assignments that have given me the chance to expand my thinking abilities. The work program that this school has available to the students are moslty internship. For me personally I got the chance to be an intern at Chase Manhattan Bank throught the school. This was a very good experience for me because it gave me the chance to be out in the working world. Working at Chase I met a lot of nice people.

Rodriguez Luz A :As a tech prep student I realized that it was a fun opportunity and I hope that all of uses will have as much fun and are prepared for all the projects that are coming your way.In this program they will give you alot of work to do and if you are prepared then I wish the best.This program will help you with learning responsibilities, maturity and also help you and guide you to what college you would like to go to. With this program you will get to know yourself and get to know your abilities regardless of what they are.You will also find your true friends in this program because of the fact that you will always be with them.

Valina Rudolph:Tech Prep is a college prepertory program that will enable you to attend a prestigious college after graduation.  Tech Prep is known throughout the United States as a program that produces intellegent, responsible, and successful college students.  If you are ready to get serious about your education you should ask you guidence counselor about this program.

Stephanie Bracero: Tech-Prep is a program that will benefit you, only if you use it to your advantage.  Tech-Prep is a program designed to help students work together, and bring up there grades.... One advantage of Tech-Prep is that we all are like a big family. We all stick together and help each other out. This is a part of the program that shows us how to work as a team, and later work alone. This helped most of us because we weren't used to getting help for the first two years in High School.  But when we were enrolled in Tech-Prep, we were taught this and we enjoyed it.

Veronica C. DeJesus: It has been two years since I've been in the Tech-Prep program, and I honestly have to say that it has been a tremendous experience for me.  In the past few months, I've learned many different things.  Such as, creating my own home page, interpreting other people's point of view, writing literature logs, but, most importantly, taking full responsibility for my mistakes and being able to learn from them. In the beginning I was so sure that it was going to be a waste of my time, but it sure proved me wrong.  Now, don't get me wrong when I say that because it isn't easy.  But, what class is it?  I guess you can say that this was a perfect example of giving things a chance.  It was a way of showing me that life has alot of opportunities, and you just have to take advantage of it.  I guess what I'm really trying to say is that Tech-Prep is a great experience which shows you exactly what to expect of the real world!  Not only do you meet different people, but, you also have to work with them as a team in all your endeavors. As a result, I believe that the Tech-Prep program is a good way of  preparing you for the future.  Even if you feel that fashion is not what you want to major in, it still is a wonderful program because your education goes way beyond the fashion industry.  It may be difficult at times, but as I said before, so is the real world!  The only way to be successful in life is to challenge those obstacles, and this is the perfect experience to help you achieve that!

Jenifer Dedvukaj: ...Ms.Lurie's class was not really like any English class because we went on many trips, we read a lot of books that I enjoyed. ... Taking Ms.Koffer's  and Ms.Wu' s classes and all the work we have to do   was overwhelming, but getting though it I think will be one of my biggest accomplishment this year with the fact that I will be graduating. The most important thing that came out of Tech Prep was that I am now leaving this program with a new family.

Debbie Lee:  To me Tech Prep is a family. Everyone gets to know each other and gets along well.  In Tech Prep, there is no hatred in our vocabulary list, no fights, and  no arguments. ... It is also a great home.  We discuss things together and get each other's opinion. 

Richard Felix:Tech Prep is like a great opportunity to heighten the learning process. For me it was a good experience for my development into this society we reside in.  This program gave me the first opportunity of work through the summer job program.  They also give you a great edge if you are interested in fashion.  They have special classes like fashion and others in the program.  To me it was the teachers in th program that gave me that urge to learn and succeed. 

Alex Guo: Tech Prep  is something I will always remember.  When I first entered the Tech Prep program in the begining of my junior year I wasn't too happy.  The reason was because I didn't really know anybody, everybody's face was new to me.  I had always had a problem adapting to big changes, and this was what I would consider a big change. But, little did I know that a year later that I would be so happy to have joined Tech Prep.

Karla Lopez :The Tech Prep Program was quiet an experience for me.  It did several things that enhances my experience in high school. ... The teachers give you the giudence you need to write college essays and do many other things. 

Johanna Rodrigues: Tech Prep for me was an okay program... The job that I have now is the one that Rebecca Karpus  (the Tech Prep Advisor) helped me get. The closest friends that I have now in this school are from the Tech Prep class as well. We became close I guess because of all the classes we had together. The Tech Prep program is a big plus which shows employers your ability and motivation to work hard. One very important thing that I have to say to all the new Tech Preppers is to work hard .If you don't get along with anyone in your Tech Prep class get over it because chances are you are going to see a lot more of that person senior year than you intended to. The Tech Prep program working together with F.I.T. helps you to make up your own resume and they eventually work you up to a practice job interview. On that interview The Tech Prep Advisor Ms. Rebecca Karpus will let you know the pros and your cons on a job interview. She also guarantees a summer job and on how well you was some employers even recommend you staying with them.
